I’ve had my 1976 4001 (made in December 1976) since 1978 and paid $360 for it. That was a lot of money for a junior in High School back then! Since then, even now, even after reading this piece, I’m still unsure if it’s Autumnglow, Walnut or some other “brown hued variant”. It does not have a matte finish. Thoughts?

Happy to send a photo, can’t seem to in bed one here.

Love this blog!

I have a 76 3000 that is exactly the same walnut finish as the one in your article.

Rare for a reason. Terrible look.

My employment at the Rickenbacker Santa Ana, California factory ended circa September of 1974. I do not recall any Walnut finishes in the production line. What month were these 1974 Walnut-finish instruments made? ~ Kim Z. Turtenwald

They appear to have started in February 74, and the register has examples from pretty much every month through December 75

Thanks. I just don’t remember them! Must not have been many.
