Andy, I couldn't find any model 59 from 1938 in the Register, nor could I find SN V8018 (even tried 3 instead of 8). I found a model 59 lapsteel in Two Tone Brown in 1939 and that was the sole wooden 59 I could find, and there was no mention of not being a Rick. Where are the 3 to 5 model 59s mentioned in the article? Thanks, Ron

Search “V30” in the serial number field…two of them are listed as “generic lap steels”. As far as exact dating goes…38-39 is my best guess based on features.

Andy, I have revised the Register listing for two of the "generic lapsteels" that I found using the V30 search that came up as 1939 entries. I have listed them as model 59 and added this in the comments: "There is reason to believe, despite the unconventional wooden body, that this lapsteel shows all the markings, including serial number, of being a RIC factory product." So now there are three of them in the Register with these SNs: V3029, V3014 and V3015. Let me know if there are any others. Also still wondering about the photo in the article that shows SN V8018 (or is it V3018/3?).

I’m pretty sure it’s -18, and it’s currently on Reverb. That’s what caught my eye and sent me down the rabbit hole!

I entered the one on Reverb to the Register and now there are four model 59 in wood - two tone brown 1959. Odd - there's one listed 9 years ago asking a ridiculous price.

The two on Reverb are actually the same guitar…look at the scratches. The old ad must just be old.
