Fun piece! I especially enjoyed the comments about the Halls never throwing anything away. I remember calling Rickenbacker in about 1989 asking for some parts for restoring a 1960 365 that had lost its tailpiece over time. The operator put me straight through to none other than John Hall — surprise! John was very friendly and interested in my project and said he had an original Kauffman Vibrola available that he could stick in the mail to me. Lovely!

The comment about the Halls not throwing anything away brought to mind that a few (?) of the first V63 4001 basses came with real horseshoe pickups, instead of the newly designed reissue HS.

I love that sound of the vibrato in YouTube clip! An incredibly complex system for it's day, but unfortunately more of a novelty than anything else.
